Juno Through Signs
Juno Through Signs
The mythological origin
of Juno is the Roman goddess (Greek Hera), the wife of the supreme god Jupiter (Zeus). In mythology, she is known as the goddess of marriage, loyalty and family, but also as a jealous and hurt wife, because Jupiter was famous for infidelities. Therefore, Juno carries within her the archetype of fidelity and commitment, but also the shadow of jealousy, betrayal and the struggle for dignity in the relationship.
Astronomy
Juno (asteroid number 3) was discovered in 1804, the third in order after Ceres and Pallas.
Diameter: about 233 km. It moves in the main asteroid belt between Mars and Jupiter.
Juno in Astrology
Key Symbolism
Marriage and partnership – not in the sense of falling in love (that’s Venus), but in the sense of a lasting relationship and soul contract.
Loyalty and Betrayal – How We Struggle with Trust in Partnerships.
Equality and dignity – how much we respect our partner and how much we expect our partner to respect us. Commitment – where and how we feel we “belong” in a relationship.
In the birth chart, Juno shows:
What we are looking for in marriage or a long-term relationship (not necessarily in romance). What we consider a true partnership and where we demand mutual loyalty. Themes of the struggle for common life, vows, obligations. The way we experience betrayal, disappointment or imbalance in relationships.
Difference with Venus
Venus = attraction, romance, pleasure. Juno = commitment, marriage, loyalty and long-term commitment. Thus, Venus describes who we like, and Juno who we choose for life together.
Jungian archetype Juno
Juno is the embodiment of the Anima/Animus dynamic in partnership:
it represents our inner image of the ideal partner (archetypal marriage), it indicates projection – we tend to transfer our unconscious needs to our partner, In the Shadow it carries jealousy, a sense of injustice and a feeling of undervaluation when we do not get equality.
Juno teaches us that a true partnership is based on equality and respect, and that only through balancing power and trust can it survive.
How to find your Juno in your horoscope?
Where is Juno?
Juno is an asteroid in the main asteroid belt, between Mars and Jupiter. Its orbit lasts about 4.36 years, which means that it takes about that long to go around the entire Zodiac.
Moving through the Zodiac
Like the planets, Juno moves through all 12 signs of the Zodiac. On average, it stays about 3–4 months in one sign, but it depends on the retrograde movement.
Retrograde motion
Juno, like the planets, sometimes goes retrograde (apparently backwards through the Zodiac as seen from Earth). This means that he lingers longer in certain signs and that the themes of partnership and loyalty in that period require reconsideration and introspection. In the symbols of the horoscope, Juno is indicated by a small cross on top of the mirror (it looks like Venus with a cross above it).
Interpretation
The sign Juno is in shows the type of partner and how we perceive marriage. The house Juno is in shows the area of life where we feel the need for partnership and loyalty.
Aspects with other planets explain the dynamics and challenges in relationships. So, Juno moves through the entire Zodiac in just over 4 years and can be found in every birth chart, just like the planets.
