Working with Shadow: The Path to Wholeness through Jungian Astrology

In a rapidly changing world, where polarization and inner turmoil often surface, shadow work becomes a key tool for personal growth. Combining the depth psychology of Carl Gustav Jung with the symbolism of the stars, Jungian astrology offers a powerful framework for understanding and integrating the hidden parts of ourselves.

In 2025 2018, under the influence of significant transits such as retrograde Uranus, Pluto and Neptune, we are invited to dive into our unconscious and face the shadow – those parts of ourselves that we often repress. How do we do it on a personal level, and how can astrology help us? What is the shadow and why is it important?

According to Jung, the shadow is a set of unconscious aspects of the personality – feelings, desires, fears or behaviors that we reject because we find them unacceptable. It could be anger we hide, fear of failure, or even talents we don’t acknowledge. The shadow is not “bad”, but a part of our wholeness waiting to be recognized and integrated. When we ignore it, it manifests itself through projections – we accuse others of what we don’t want to see in ourselves – or through internal conflicts, such as anxiety and feelings of failure.

Jungian astrology helps us map this process through the birth chart and current transits. For example, the year 2025 brings retrograde cycles of Uranus in Gemini, Pluto in Aquarius and Neptune on the cusp of Aries, which encourage us to introspect and transform. These transits act as cosmic allies, inviting us to reexamine old patterns and release what holds us back.

Astrological Context for Shadow Work in 2025 Retrograde Pluto in Aquarius highlights the need for deep inner cleansing. Pluto, archetypally associated with shadow and transformation, asks us to confront collective and personal trauma. In Aquarius, this can mean questioning how we fit into society or suppressing our uniqueness for fear of judgment.

Uranus retrograde in Gemini brings restlessness and sudden insights. Uranus forces us to break down rigid mental structures, which can cause resistance, but also reveal hidden parts of our psyche. For example, we may realize that we have been suppressing creative impulses out of fear that we are not “good enough.”

Neptune in Aries encourages us to bridge the gap between spirituality and action. This is the time when we face illusions about ourselves, but also when we can find the strength to act from an authentic center. Neptune invites us to dream, but also to recognize where we “got lost” in our fantasies.
